Overview of RPL for 10278NAT Cert IV in TESOL

Course Units

The 10278NAT Certificate IV in TESOL has the following units:

BSBCMM401 Make a presentation
TSLCUL401 Teach language and culture to people from different cultures
TSLDEL401 Deliver spoken English grammar training
TSLDEL402 Deliver and review English language classes
TSLDES401 Design an English language training programme
TSLEVL401 Evaluate learners’ English language development
TSLSLA401 Facilitate individual second language acquisition

All these units are core units. There are no elective units in this qualification.

Full information for these units is included in the RPL Kit which you will receive once your RPL application has been completed (including payment of your application fee).

You will be provided with detailed instructions for all the evidence required for each unit of competency. The evidence will cover performance and knowledge.

Once you have submitted your application for RPL, including payment, you have 90 calendar days to gather all the evidence required and submit this for assessment.

Unit: BSBCMM401 Make a presentation

Evidence Required

You must show current evidence of the ability to complete tasks outlined in elements and performance criteria below; manage tasks and manage contingencies in the context of the job role.

There must be demonstrated evidence that you have:

  • Prepared and delivered presentations related to occupation or area of interest which demonstrated the use of:
    • effective presentation strategies and communication principles
    • aids and materials to support the presentation
  • Selected and implemented methods to review the effectiveness of own presentation and document any changes which would improve future presentations

You must be able to demonstrate essential knowledge required to effectively do the task outlined in elements and performance criteria of this unit, manage the task and manage contingencies in the context of the work role.

Unit: TSLCUL401 Teach English language and culture to people from different cultures

Evidence Required

You must show current evidence of the ability to complete tasks outlined in elements and performance criteria below; manage tasks and manage contingencies in the context of the job role.

There must be demonstrated evidence that you have:

  • Implemented at least two strategies addressing cultural learning styles
  • Taught at least two cultural behavioural aspects of English language communication
  • Built an effective learning relationship with at least three students of another culture and assist them by addressing cultural aspects of the learning process

You must be able to demonstrate essential knowledge required to effectively do the task outlined in elements and performance criteria of this unit, manage the task and manage contingencies in the context of the work role.

Unit: TSLDEL401 Deliver spoken English grammar training

Evidence Required

You must show current evidence of the ability to complete tasks outlined in elements and performance criteria below; manage tasks and manage contingencies in the context of the job role.

There must be demonstrated evidence that you have:

  • Developed and implemented a plan for grammar training including communicative activities
  • Reviewed a grammar training session

You must be able to demonstrate essential knowledge required to effectively do the task outlined in elements and performance criteria of this unit, manage the task and manage contingencies in the context of the work role.

Unit: TSLDEL402 Deliver and review English language classes

Evidence Required

You must show current evidence of the ability to complete tasks outlined in elements and performance criteria below; manage tasks and manage contingencies in the context of the job role.

There must be demonstrated evidence that you have:

  • Facilitated English language learning by preparing, delivering and reviewing at least six consecutive English language classes of at least 40 minutes duration, that followed a learning program specifically designed or adapted for the learner group.
  • Addressed a variety of language microskills including:
    • At least two language functions
    • At least two different pronunciation microskills
    • At least one listening skill
    • At least one reading skill
    • At least one writing skill
    • New vocabulary
  • Developed resources for at least three English language classes
  • Supported learners in language learning

You must be able to demonstrate essential knowledge required to effectively do the task outlined in elements and performance criteria of this unit, manage the task and manage contingencies in the context of the work role.

Unit: TSLDES401 Design an English language training programme

Evidence Required

You must show current evidence of the ability to complete tasks outlined in elements and performance criteria below; manage tasks and manage contingencies in the context of the job role.

There must be demonstrated evidence that you have:

  • Designed an English language training programme including:
    • a purpose statement
    • an overall operating framework
    • structure
  • Identified learning needs and characteristics of at least three people with a first language other than English
  • Developed a written syllabus document including all the required information, showing continuity and logical progression over the total duration of the course being planned for an English language training program

You must be able to demonstrate essential knowledge required to effectively do the task outlined in elements and performance criteria of this unit, manage the task and manage contingencies in the context of the work role.

Unit: TSLEVL402 Evaluate learners’ English language development

Evidence Required

You must show current evidence of the ability to complete tasks outlined in elements and performance criteria below; manage tasks and manage contingencies in the context of the job role.

There must be demonstrated evidence that you have:

  • Developed proficiency, diagnostic, formative and summative English language assessments
  • Created language assessment activities
  • Implemented proficiency, diagnostic, formative and summative English language assessment on at least three people whose first language is other than English
  • Analysed English language assessments carried out on at least three people whose first language is other than English
  • Reviewed language assessment

You must be able to demonstrate essential knowledge required to effectively do the task outlined in elements and performance criteria of this unit, manage the task and manage contingencies in the context of the work role.

Unit: TSLSLA401 Facilitate individual second language acquisition

Evidence Required

You must show current evidence of the ability to complete tasks outlined in elements and performance criteria below; manage tasks and manage contingencies in the context of the job role.

There must be demonstrated evidence that you have:

  • Developed a plan to facilitate second language acquisition including the use of communicative activities
  • Facilitated second language acquisition with at least three, second language learners over a period not less than three weeks
  • Reviewed and documented the effectiveness of the second language acquisition activities and strategies making recommendations for improvement

You must be able to demonstrate essential knowledge required to effectively do the task outlined in elements and performance criteria of this unit, manage the task and manage contingencies in the context of the work role.
